Parthibhai Bhatol Re Elected GCMMF Chairman

The Board of Directors of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (Amul) the apex body of 13 Milk Unions of Gujarat having a membership of 27 lakh farmer members have re-elected Shri Parthibhai Bhatol as its Chairman in an election held on June 26, 2009.

The election was unanimous and it reflects the unity among its Board members. Bhatol is the Chairman of Banaskantha District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd., Palanpur.

The Govt. of Gujarat played a very constructive role in the election. Mr Vipul Chaudhary, Chairman, Mehsana District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd. (BJP) proposed the candidature of Shri Parthibhai Bhatol while Shri Ramsinh Parmar, Chairman, Kaira District Milk Producers Union (Congress) seconded the proposal.

Mr Bhatol was unanimously elected above party lines. This shows the strength of the co-operative leaders and their maturity. This also shows how the Govt. should play a positive role.

Under the leadership of Mr Bhatol, the Federation has achieved its biggest ever turnover of over Rs. 6700 Crores in 2008-09 with a growth of 28% in the year of recession. When he took over as its Chairman in 2006, the turnover was only 3770 Crores. In a span of just three years, the Federation has achieved a growth of 77% under his leadership. The Board of Directors expressed the hope that the Federation will continue its march towards greater achievements under the stewardship of Mr Bhatol thereby improving the lives of millions of farmers whom GCMMF represents.
