Ushacomm’s partner Eppixcomm has launched the Eppix Interconnect Billing System in the recently concluded GSM - 3G AfricaCom, conference in Cape Town, South Africa. This Interconnect billing system which has been introduced with suitable features catering to the needs of the African market was highly appreciated by a large number of operators. Apart from confirming the huge demand for interconnect solution in the African market, the positive response generated from the conference participants proved that this tailored Interconnect solution is geared to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing telecom scenario of the African continent.

Recent studies have revealed that the African operators lose a large volume of revenues estimated to be over a quarter of their total revenues, largely due to faulty interconnect settlements.  Interconnect settlements constitute 60% of an operator’s cost and in a market plagued by decreasing ARPU, interconnect has undoubtedly emerged as the most important player in improving the bottom-line.

With a capacity to process hundreds of million CDRs per day, this Interconnect Billing System is designed to maximize the operators’ revenue potential from interconnect business. The product offers a wide range of features including reconciliation mechanisms.  The reconciliation feature, in particular, allows the operator to drill down to the last CDR for handling disputes that arise out of invoiced amounts or shared traffic.

According to Dr Saugata Banerjee, Executive Director, Ushacomm, the product’s multi-level reconciliation mechanism not only improves the bottom-lines of African operators, but also enables them to sustain profitable relations with various interconnect partners by reducing potential for disputes and disagreements over the sharing of revenues and costs.
